Adios, SGA. You're the show that gave me the fandom that taught me shame and penguin trauma, reminded me that America and Hollywood do not have the monopoly on show-runnning jackasses, and started my retrograde motion toward Farscape.

(I should update this journal more often, and leave better feedback, and all that "be a better fangirl" jazz. Unfortunately, most of my fannish brain these days is still trying out crack-fuelled premises like, "if you did an SGA/Cyteen fusion. Rodney would be a Special, John just might be some sort of CIT ex-azi, and we'd finally know who killed Ari Emory. Teyla and Ronon are too sane to be anywhere near these Reseune shenanigans." I have obviously not yet read Regenesis.)

So yeah, I don't know what my next fandom will be. I'm actively watching NCIS, House, and T:tSCC, but the only one with anything that might be mistaken for a plot arc is tSCC, which really deserves some plotty exploration of the time travel shenanigans. Terminator marathon, anyone?

Today's accomplishments: laundry, errands, pretending work doesn't exist until Monday Tuesday.

Signs you stayed up too late and are burning out on life, and really need to get out of the house:

1.) You're reading Iron Man fanfic.
2.) The disclaimer reads, "Oh, Marvel. Remember that time you had Ultron turn Tony Stark into a girl? Why do I even bother writing fanfic for you?"
3.) The obvious next step is plotting crossovers with girl!Tony and [info]ivorygates' Danielle Jackson. (Tony + Dani = OH NOES. Iron Man + Stargate love affair with nuclear weapons = AWESOME SHENANIGANS.)

Off for overnight at dad's. Sort of want to stay home, but it's self-evidently time to put down the laptop and interact with humanity.

Also, House last night? Soap opera of awesome.

To celebrate finishing Farscape S4, have a really distracting low quality screencap.

Crichton and his wormholes. )

Why is this so hot? Is it Ben Browder? Is it John Crichton as played by BB? Is it the casual spawl? Is it the leather? Is it the math?

This requires analysis. Deep analysis. Yep.

So Adrift and Lifeline - that was crack, and not always in the good way. John Sheppard is good with small groups, but running the city? This is just asking for tears. I'm going to miss Elizabeth - just as she gets one of my favorite stories, Weird And Scary Tech In You! - so whatever the producers were on in S3, I suggest we send them more of it.

Dear fandom, you make me SO SAD with the AT bashing. It's really sad that PTB can't find a way to get Weir and Carter on Atlantis at the same time, but that's why we invented fanfic. So take all the hate and tears and write me some long plotty fic where Sam and Elizabeth have to work together to kick replicator ass. NC-17 interludes and femslashy alien sex pollen imported from Torchwood are optional, but totally allowed. (Besides which, replicator!Weir and Sam's Fifth issues would be are awesome screwy psychology just waiting to happen.) The McShep people who are harshing the vibe are also making me sad, because really. The answer to clashing OTPs is OT3. So go write a John/Rodney/Sam comedy, please.

Speaking of sex pollen - fandom! The Ig Nobel Prize in the "peace" category rocks my world this year! The labs at Wright AFB takes the prize for trying to engineer a "gay bomb". They didn't succeed, but oh, the mere fact that they tried. Many people are laughing at the American military researchers and their strange ideas today.

From recent IM conversations:

Me: Like, um, [Curt] Schilling goes to Atlantis?
S: ...that would be HILARIOUS.
S: He would argue with Rodney.
S: a lot.
Me: Because that would just end in Schilling/McKay... god.
S: ^_________^
Me: When did "argue = sex" happen to me?
S: when you got into fic fandom, dear

S: ...the Yankees have a player named Shelley?
S: ...and that's actually his middle name?
Me: What's his first name, Meredith?
S: David
S: ...hahaha.

Less funny: watching Children of Men. Very good movie, except for that one scene where Kee does the pregnancy reveal for Theo and the audience's benefit. Because - just look at the screencap.

I understand that you're young and 8 months into your unexpected pregnancy and scared out of your wits, but. Most unfortunate shot ever. )

I like mashups. No, really. A lot. So things like DJ Erb's Class(X) project (end of the page) make me jump up and down and blast the bass. The goal is a CD of hip-hop and classical / movie instrumental soundtrack mashups, which is pretty much mint chocolate chip ice cream in my book: two flavors that are better together. If you have to download just one song, get Promentory, which mashes part of The Last of the Mohicans with Kanye West's "Diamonds From Sierra Leone".

Surfing the spoilers is a sad reminder that the SGA PTB aren't writing what I'm watching. I can tell because they're excited by their evil!Sheppard ep and I'm wondering why they haven't done an evil!McKay ep yet. Because evil!John shoots at things and loses at running away (hello, guys, Long Goodbye? Conversion?) and evil!Rodney would blow up the world. More than he does in Trinity.

(The lack of evil doubles in season three is a source of deep grief to me, obviously. Dear SGA: just one ep of evil!Rodney. Please? Teyla can be evil too. Actually, Teyla and Rodney as the evil overlords of Atlantis would be pretty cool, since Teyla might even get some lines.)

As long as I'm being a smartass, have some icons likely to land you in snarky waters in most fandoms. Preview:

You do not want to know what it took to post that. I hate computer labs.

Fandom is my happy place, so it's probably some sort of karma my computer has been hanging out in the repair shop lately. Instead of anything approaching serious posting, I bring you my technical woes and my life in computer limbo.

So, crackfic? I'm thinking the imminent end of Harry Potter needs to spark some seriously wacky crossovers. Like, anime crossovers. And that's my deep thought for the day.

I am addicted to post-its. My desk looks like perpetual autumn. I have about ten thousand pads I found at home or took from college job fairs, first look fairs, etc. I will go through them all in about a year.

I was rummaging for a clean post-it when I found - whatever this is.

He moved out. When? About an hour ago.
- ballet?

I have no idea what this was supposed to be. Spirit writing? The beginnings of the Great American Comedic Novel? It's inexplicably present, and going to drive me nuts until I admit I'm obsessing over nothing and fall on my face for twelve hours.

Congratualations to this year's Hugo and Campbell nominees! We will be picking your books, the award, and fandom apart online for the next five months. Conversation has started on cofax7's journal about the gender breakdown. I want to know why a WorldCon held in Japan didn't include a stronger anime or manga presence. I always feel bad about not nominating, but I stopped getting WorldCon memberships when I started college, and I rarely finished reading everything the nominees list after that.
